Return Form is a four-part studio program that helps you take an idea (even a fuzzy one) and turn it into a finished piece — ending in a group studio show. It’s part residency (short and focused), part workshop (guided and playful).
What is Return Form, exactly?
Return Form is for visual artists who are finding their way back to making. Maybe you’ve been stuck, busy, or unsure where to start? If you’re already immersed in a full-time art practice, this program may not be the right fit right now.
WHO IS IT FOR?
We’ll meet for four Thursday evenings between June and September—each session is about three hours. Please only apply if you know you can be there. We get that life happens, but showing up consistently makes all the difference!
WHAT'S THE TIME COMMITMENT?
Nope. We’ll kick things off with a shared theme and brief to get everyone going.
Just come with curiosity—we’ll figure out the rest together!
DO I NEED TO HAVE AN IDEA ALREADY?
Each session builds on the last — a creative journey of sorts. There’ll be guest speakers, group activities, time to work, time to talk, and just enough structure to keep you moving (without micromanaging you!).
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS IN THE SESSIONS?
Sixteen total!
HOW MANY ARTISTS WILL THERE BE IN THE GROUP?
Yes! This is a real-life, in-person program. You’ll need to be in the Portland area to join.
DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN PORTLAND?
It’s totally free to participate.
We don’t offer a stipend, but we cover everything else — space, guidance, programming, and support.
IS IT FREE? DO I GET PAID?
While our focus isn't to critique - we're open to discussing your work and how it fits into the theme of the show.
WILL I GET FEEDBACK ON MY WORK?
While we understand things come up, and still encourage people to keep working on their project if they miss a session, we cannot offer make-up sessions. These sessions will not be recorded for later review.
